Robust nonequilibrium surface currents in the three-dimensional Hofstadter model

چکیده

Genuinely two-dimensional robust crosscurrents---which flow against the natural direction of heat flux--- have been missing since discovery their one-dimensional counterpart. We provide a setup to realize them on cubic three-dimensional (3D) lattice hosting Hofstadter model coupled two baths with different temperatures. show that these currents exhibit dissipative robustness; they are stable presence impurities and tilting gauge field in certain nonequilibrium configurations. Moreover, we find protected boundary genuinely 3D robustness, i.e., only if tunneling can occur all three spatial directions. The also presents generic surface currents, which for both bosonic fermionic systems. identify underlying qualitative mechanism responsible robustness crucial role played by discrete symmetries.

Three-Dimensional Simulation of Qeshm Channel Currents

Qeshm Channel is a shallow and narrow waterway located between Qeshm Island and the mainland in the vicinity of Hormuzgan Province, Islamic Republic of Iran. This channel is important because of its economic, industrial, fisheries and navigation role it plays as well as environmental issues it presents in the region. A prognostic study was performed to simulate currents in this channel, using C...

Three-dimensional reconstruction of oceanic mesoscale currents from surface information

[1] The ability to reconstruct the three-dimensional (3D) dynamics of the ocean by an effective version of Surface Quasi-Geostrophy (eSQG) is examined. Using the fact that surface density plays an analogous role as interior potential vorticity (PV), the eSQG method consists in inverting the QG PV generated by sea-surface density only. We also make the extra assumption that sea-surface temperatu...

Junctions of three quantum wires and the dissipative Hofstadter model.

We study a junction of three quantum wires enclosing a magnetic flux. This is the simplest problem of a quantum junction between Tomonaga-Luttinger liquids in which Fermi statistics enter in a nontrivial way. We present a direct connection between this problem and the dissipative Hofstadter problem, or quantum Brownian motion in two dimensions in a periodic potential and an external magnetic fi...

Three-dimensional surface model analysis in the gastrointestinal tract.

The biomechanical changes during functional loading and unloading of the human gastrointestinal (GI) tract are not fully understood. GI function is usually studied by introducing probes in the GI lumen. Computer modeling offers a promising alternative approach in this regard, with the additional ability to predict regional stresses and strains in inaccessible locations. The tension and stress d...

Currents in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics.

Nonzero currents characterize the nonequilibrium state in stochastic dynamics (or master equation) models of natural systems. In such models there is a matrix R of transition probabilities connecting the states of the system. We show that if the strength of a transition increases, so does the current along the corresponding bond. We also address the inverse problem: given a set of observed curr...
